Why Sacred Names?
The Name That Was Hidden
Open almost any English Bible and you'll see "LORD" printed in capital letters thousands of times. But this is not a translation — it's a substitution.
The original Hebrew text contains the four-letter name יהוה (YHWH), often called the Tetragrammaton. This is the personal name of the Creator, appearing 6,828 times in Scripture.
Most translations replaced this name with "LORD" or "GOD" — a tradition that began long before the first English Bibles. But is this what Scripture commands?
What Scripture Says About His Name
"I am Yahuah: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another." — Isaiah 42:8
"And Elohim said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, Yahuah Elohim of your fathers... hath sent me unto you: this is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations." — Exodus 3:15
"Sing unto Elohim, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name YAH, and rejoice before him." — Psalm 68:4
"And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of Yahuah shall be delivered." — Joel 2:32
Why "Yahuah" and Not "Yahweh"?
The pronunciation "Yahweh" became popular in academic circles, but historical and linguistic evidence suggests "Yahuah" may be closer to the original:
- Ancient Hebrew poetry and theophoric names (names containing YHWH) point to "Yahu-" as the beginning
- The "-ah" ending matches the short form "Yah" found in "HalleluYah" (Praise Yah)
- The name means "He exists" or "He causes to exist" — reflecting the self-existent nature of the Creator
Why "Yahusha" and Not "Jesus"?
The Messiah was given a Hebrew name at birth — a name that contains His Father's name and describes His mission:
- Yahusha (יהושע) means "Yahuah saves" or "Yahuah is salvation"
- This is the same name as Joshua (Yahushua/Yahusha) son of Nun
- "Jesus" is an English transliteration of the Greek Ἰησοῦς (Iesous), which transliterated the Hebrew
- Using His Hebrew name connects us to the meaning and to His Father's name within it
Does It Really Matter?
The Almighty Himself declares His name is His "memorial unto all generations" (Exodus 3:15). He says His name is to be proclaimed in all the earth (Exodus 9:16). The third commandment prohibits bringing His name to naught — and replacing it with a title arguably does exactly that.
We believe using the sacred names is about honoring Scripture and the One who inspired it. It's about reading His Word the way it was written.
